the wedding band!

last week i made the EXCELLENT discovery of the wedding band. they are pretty much the pseudo band of mumford & sons...it's great bluegrass music made by some of my favorite musicians. the only song i could find online was thumper, but the whole EP i have heard is phenomenal. not that it's surprising at all...mumford & sons is spectacular after all.

the festival of colors.

my third year of festival of colors...and probably my favorite!

hare krishna.

one of my favorite days of the year was yesterday...
the hare krishna festival of colors!
it's a celebration of spring, where everyone throws colored chalk in the air, dances around bonfires, and gets to go inside the beautiful krishna temple in spanish fork.
this was my third year going, and i think out of the three years it was my favorite.
more on that later though. while it was a lovely day it has me absolutely exhausted and in desperate need of sleep...

remembering elizabeth.

today one of my favorite actresses passed away at age 79.
elizabeth taylor has always been a truly inspirational woman, and unbelievably gorgeous!
i have loved her since i saw the taming of the shrew. other favorites of mine include cleopatra and the comedians. she was a legend, and will be missed!

what a beautiful woman!
RIP.

spring break highlights.

i had a very relaxing spring break [that went by way too fast]! i was VERY upset about having to go to school this morning and take a quiz. some highlights from the week were:

-saw rango with friends [and loved it]
-saw lincoln lawyer...definitely didn't love it.
-went to a mountain hymns concert
-hung out with logan friends, especially my favorite miss ally.
-worked..a lot. but still had fun doing so.
-ate at red iguana, one of my favorite mexican joints
[i highly recommend the mexican plate.]
-slept in
-ate sushi and carl's jr like it was going out of style
-hung out with my family
-watched tin man [zooey deschanel is gorgeous as ever in it]
-watched the sunrise yesterday morning at work and it was beautiful.
now i just need to make it through this week...i cannot wait for FESTIVAL OF COLORS this weekend! this will be my third year in a row going. see my previous post about it here.

our favorite food.

our family is not really the healthiest of eaters...
however we have learned over the past couple months that we love brussel sprouts. who would have thought?? turns out they are totally delicious, esp when my papa makes them.
we like to put just a little butter and pepper on them. mmmmm.
we had them for dinner this week, along with BBQ chicken with sauteed mushrooms. needless to say it was delicious. and since i am starving right now...i figured i might as well blog about my love of food. don't judge.

so good!

check out zoo kid, a sixteen year old musician who is absolutely mind blowing. my good friend mike patton showed him to me, and all i could think while i was listening to him was, "this is incredible. england gets this seriously talented awesome teenager...and we got stuck with justin bieber?!?" haha. do NOT tell my little sisters i said that.
either way zoo kid is incredible, and absolutely worth a listen!

quote quote quote.

since david hume is one of my favorite philosophers, i decided to share a lovely quote by him this week.
[and isn't this pic rad??! i love sabino.]

Heaven and hell suppose two distinct species o men, the good and the bad; but the greatest pat of mankind float betwixt vice and virtue.

breaks my heart.

hearing about all the deaths and damage in japan this past week has been a real eye-opener. life is so precious! this article especially got to me...the fact that they are short on coffins is horrible. a disaster of this magnitude is hard to imagine; all i know is i feel so bad for the japanese population.
in instances like these it's hard to know how to help. when we're so far away it seems like maybe there isn't anything we can do.  however, donations are always accepted at places like your local red cross, and any type of donation would be sure to help the japanese people. i read this article for ideas on where to go to help. whether you donate a little or a lot, everything can help these poor people recover from what has been declared the worst national crisis since world war 2.

i dig.

i've hardly had time to breathe the past few days...thanks to midterms, watching my sisters, working, getting sick...i am going from sunup to sundown and it is exhausting. but i've still found some time to discover new favorite musica...i give you...my "it's almost spring" happy playlist:

1. coconut records - west coast
2. manchester orchestra - simple math [this is manchester's new single...ah.]
3. radiohead - lotus flower [also new!]
4. florence and the machine - dog days are over
5. stornoway - zorbing
6. brand new - daisy remix
7. modest mouse - night on the sun
8. matt and kim - daylight
9. arcade fire - ready to start
10. fictionist - blue eyed universe

now maybe the rain will go away...
i wanna go for a hike.

mama's back!!

my cute mama got to check this off her bucket list last week..
[also on my bucket list..therefore i was extremely jealous.]
but now my mama is back from her cruise...thank heavens. i miss my mom when she is gone..and not just because i have to try my best to clean, cook, and carpool [how does she do that?!] but also because i miss having her around to share the funny random things that happen throughout my day. my mom is definitely amazing and i am so glad she is back!
and look what she got me from jamaica!
probably the coolest t shirt ever. she knows me well.

quote of the week.

"Those who are trying to find love will end up with hatred, frustration and insanity. Those who are trying to find wealth will end up totally neurotic, psychotic and totally crab. Because if you are trying to find something, you have basically, intentionally, intuitively, and individually accepted that you do not have it."

ugly face.

a favorite tradition of mine and my sisters is the "ugly face" game. i got it from some friends... and spread it to the family almost immediately. any time someone leaves their camera lying around, we pick it up and take a picture of us making a hideous face. [i usually win...turns out i'm really good at the ugly face game..!] here is our most recent work, taken on my sister casie's camera:
me and my nephew matthew, who loves the ugly face game:]

me, matthew, and sister kylie.

beautiful.

quote of the week.

i know i have posted this quote on the blog before..
but it is my favorite quote of all time. and that's saying something, because i am a quote FANATIC. but this one has always struck me, much more so than any other.
To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.

man of the house and other things.

this week is a crazy one. my mom is on a cruise [she's so lucky...i really don't want to talk about it...boo.] my dad is out of town for business. so it's me and the sistas, who are 13 and 11, so it's more of a good time than actual "babysitting."
however, we still have a man of the house present while papa is gone.. and he is a ferocious beast who will protect us and devour any intruder!!
hahahah.
it's true that sir timothy, aka timmy, timitron, and tiny tim, is our so-called "guard dog".
he is more here to give me someone to hang out with than to protect us i think. either way, i'm playing mom for the next 3 days... keeping track of where my sisters need to be and when, making sure they get to school and do their homework, clean and cook, AND my usual work and school. now i know what my mom means when she says being a mom is a full time job.
