my papa.

a man i am forever grateful to have in my life is my sweet dad.  he is such a great example to me & i never thank him enough for being so great.

it's safe to say i spend a lot of my time with my dad arguing. sometimes it's all in good fun & sometimes i just want to scream! we have completely opposing views on anything & everything. republican, democrat.. religious, nonreligious.. responsible, not so much...haha. but i love how opposite we are & yet how much the same. it's safe to say i have my dad to thank for at least 50% of my musical tastes. i remember growing up & listening to tom petty, pink floyd, & the eagles, & loving every minute of it.

growing up my dad was my hero. i wanted to be just as tall as him & just as fun as him. he gave me & my siblings such a great childhood. we learned the value of hard work. we were able to play sports & my dad was often our coach. he was a huge part of every big event in my life. i know now how very lucky that makes me..a lot of my friends have not had a dad that stuck around.

my dad teaches me so much every day. he is an amazing person & so smart! he has always motivated me. if it weren't for him i'm not sure if i ever would have wanted to go to college..or even gone for that matter. but i've seen how successful he is been, & how much he knows, & i wanted to be just like him.
i think the best thing about my dad is his sense of humor. he has to be one of the funniest people i've ever met.
this is earlier this year, where my dad made us watch the "royal wedding" with some of my grandma's hats on. it was SO HILARIOUS. he would say, "be pompous everyone!" it's the little random things that he does that make me realize how very much i love my papa bear!

chickens & kids

last week i got to stay at my parent's house & pet sit four adult chickens & four baby chicks. it was pretty fun, not gonna lie...the chicks love to hang out under the red light that keeps them warm. the big chickens love to eat food out of your hands...my nephew, niece & i couldn't get enough of it. & i couldn't get enough of them!

take two.

so here's how much my boyfriend & i like pumpkin seeds.
okay, mostly my boyfriend. i can't believe how many he can eat in one sitting. luke got these for cheap at his work the other day & carved them all out. he roasted probably a thousand seeds (so yummy). here's how many we have left today.
judge us if you will.
the best part, by the way, is that we have no intention of carving these pumpkins (turns out i really do hate carving pumpkins.) but our friend's mom runs a day care up here in ogden, so we're taking them to her so the kids can have pumpkins to carve :) good deed for the day!

the roaring twenties.

luke & i went to a halloween/birthday party for my good friend scott last weekend. it was so much fun!! luke threw his costume together in minutes (i've had mine for over a year) & we went as a roaring twenties couple. it was SUCH a blast!
the birthday boy! love this kid.
my good friend spencer, who not only makes me laugh until i look asian, but also dressed up as a community college professor.
so funny!!!
hope everyone's weekend was fantastic! i'm back at my house in ogden...more on the fun at my parent's house soon.

i tried..

i tried to carve a pumpkin last week. luke & i cleaned it out & everything (he wanted to roast pumpkin seeds...and they were SO DELICIOUS!) and it turns out that pumpkin carving is a lot more difficult than we thought.
in fact, this is as far as we got. fail? maybe. but we had delicious roasted pumpkin seeds for a late-night treat, so i was okay with it.

love.

soy lattes for breakfast.

seeing old friends over the weekend. (even if i get a hideous picture of us both.)

planking!?! this is our morning weatherman showing off his abs.
holy cow, right??
it was a funny day to be at work, that is for sure.
new baby chickens!!! my family just ordered four more. starting tonight through the rest of the week i get to pet sit the little stinkers (as well as my parent's dogs) while my fam goes to see the redwoods....lucky.
i'll post more pictures of the little stinkers soon. one of them even has a fro! PS...my sister is so freaking cute, right?

sorry if i drop off the radar for a few days...working over 40 hours plus 3 tests in the next week, on top of pet sitting 10 chickens, 3 dogs & 2 cats means i have no time for anything. hope to get back in the swing of things by next week!

quote of the week.

by the way, the alchemist is one of my favorite books of all time. it's not very long, & it's a very deep book that puts life into perspective. i highly recommend it. paulo coelho is one of my favorite authors!

obsessed!

with the new wilco album. how are they so spectacular?! it blows my mind. i bought this cd the other day and it hasn't left my cd player since. i've been jumping at any opportunity to run errands (sure i'll go buy milk!! sure i'll run to the bank!) so i can jam their newest tunes.
my favorite off the new album....give it a listen!

am i the only one....

who finds zooey deschanel absolutely darling!?! okay, that's a stupid question, because i know i'm not. but really, she has to be one of the cutest people in the world!!
i saw her last summer at the twilight concert series, which only added to my giddy-ness at her amazing singing voice & piano playing skills. seriously, it seems like i have an elementary school crush on her!?! what in the world!

so i don't have cable, but i've been meaning to watch new girl on fox. any thoughts on the series? if it's as good as zooey is at everything else, then i'm sure it's going to be a hit.
if i could meet her one day, i'm sure i would die happy. sure of it!! until then i'll just stalk her tumblr page & her twitter page & hope i stumble upon her & her rockstar husband ben gibbard someday soon.

happy day to you all. hope the week is spectacular for you!

weekend love.

my weekend consisted of listening to a LOT of records. we mostly sat at home this weekend, what with homework & such consuming pretty much all of my spare time. this record is the new one by portugal the man and i must say it's a very favorite of mine.
luke & i did go get sushi on saturday night, & i think i found my new favorite sushi place!! holy cow it was so good. [highly recommend...purple haze sake with the coconut crunch roll. to die for!] we also ate homemade chicken noodle soup, i went for a walk in the rain, & we bought a HUGE bag of halloween candy & watched mr. brooks [my idea of a scary movie.] it was a lovely weekend.
how was yours??

my sister-in-law sent me this pic yesterday & i have to sneak it in here. are they not the cutest siblings ever???
pretty sure being an aunt is the greatest.

occupy slc photos.

today for work i got to go downtown to be part of the occupy slc fun!! getting paid to protest is the best, if you ask me. anyway, they asked me to take some photos for a photo gallery for the website. i was given a NICE camera (and i mean...nice) and a car (very conspicuous, covered in fox 13 decals) and sent downtown to capture all the awesomeness! here are a few favorite photos:
check out the rest of the photos i took here! also, here's a picture fox 13's ben winslow snuck of me getting pics of all the action. so much fun!!!

OCCUPY SLC.

*from april 2010, when a few friends & i protested outside borders in logan, where karl rove came to sign his new book.*

so i love peaceful protesting. it really is kind of the best. especially in today's world, where it seems like there's nothing else you CAN do. for those who haven't heard about occupy wall street, for 3 weeks now protesters have camped out on wall street, peacefully protesting against the rich crooks of america...the rich 1% who get thousands of dollars for christmas bonuses while the rest of the country still struggles to get on their feet.
it's also protesting the inability of democrats & republicans to agree on anything.. a main reason for why nothing is getting done, and why our country is slowly falling apart.
ironically enough, these protesters are the ones being arrested, not the crooks.
however, the rest of the nation is catching on! starting today, salt lake city will be home to one of the nationwide protests at the capitol building. they will march down to pioneer park where they will protest "however long we have to."
i work today at fox 13, but the second i'm off work i'm heading down there. it's a continual protest, so you can go whenever, at any time, and people will be there.

red thread movement.

today i am proud to say that i became a member of the red thread movement!!
this is a really great cause that i think everyone should look into getting involved in.
the idea of this nonprofit is to raise awareness of sex trafficking worldwide, but focusing on the problem of sex trafficking in nepal. thousands of young women are kidnapped from nepal (where they are not "missed" because women in nepal are at the bottom of the food chain... & i mean beneath the cows, bottom) & sold into the sex trade in india & surrounding areas.
here's a video to show you what i mean:

so today i joined the WSU chapter of the Red Thread Movement & bought the 3 dollar bracelet, made by a young girl from Nepal who got a second chance.
i must say it goes quite well with my other assortment of bracelets!
yay! for more information about the cause, visit their website.
